Mental Health, Wellbeing and Therapy
At Kingshill, we care about the mental health and well-being of all our pupils.
In recent years, mental health problems in children have seen a dramatic increase. Therefore, we have decided to be proactive with the support that we can offer.
All pupils will learn about how to look after their mental health through dedicated PSHE lessons and we take part in the children's mental health week. We have also put the following in place:
Daily Mindfulness ‘Brilliant things happen in calm minds; be calm, you’re brilliant’– Headspace
We allocate time daily for mindfulness and on top of our daily practice we call upon mindfulness during walks, times of great stress or emotion, as part of a class-based activity or at other times .The children practice mindfulness to be aware of the inner workings of their mental, emotional, and physical processes, enabling our children to connect better with the people around them.
Worry Monsters
At Kingshill we understand that no worry is too small...with that in mind, each class has a Worry Monster. Pupils can use this to share that they have a worry, an adult will then talk through the worry with them.
The Nest
At Kingshill Infants, we have a special space called 'The Nest'. This is where any child can go for some quiet time or just to talk. It is a space dedicated to supporting mental health and wellbeing. Mrs Finch and Miss Munroe are on hand to listen to and support anyone who needs them. Sometimes, a child just needs to talk about something which is on their mind. Whatever the problem, it is always good to talk, and this space is the perfect place to go.If you ever feel that your child needs some time, please let the class teacher know, and they will arrange a time with the team in The Nest.
In the Nest, we can also offer more specific support. Mrs Finch is qualified to deliver Drawing and Talking Therapy and Protective Behaviours.
The Nest is available: Tuesday-12.30 - 1 Wednesday 12.30 - 1 Thursday 8.45 - 1 Friday – 12.30 - 1
