Maths
At Kingshill, we aim to develop resilient learners who are confident whilst developing a curiosity and love of maths. The curriculum and teaching will equip pupils with the required skills of calculation, reasoning and problem-solving that they will need in the future. Teachers will expose children to a variety of concrete and pictorial representations which will deepen mathematical understanding. The curriculum will be structured and taught in a way to ensure children have the ability to recall facts and solve problems fluently in a variety of contexts.
We use 'White Rose Maths' to underpin our planning for Reception to Year 2. We have fortnightly maths assemblies and quiz questions for children to answer around the school.
In Nursery, they have a weekly discrete maths lesson linked to the topic. Maths is incorporated into child-initiated learning through their environment. In Reception, they have a daily discrete maths lesson and Maths is also incorporated into child-initiated learning through their environment.
In Year 1 and 2 they have a daily discrete maths lesson.
How can you support your child with maths at home?
- We have 'Kingshill's Maths Games' Library open to parents every day in the office. Please do take these home and enjoy these maths games with your child.
- We encourage all parents to download the 'One Minute Maths' app to support maths fluency at home.
- We send out weekly maths challenges via email to all parents.
- Our Maths Lead, Holly Turner, regularly runs Parent Maths Workshops. If you have not been able to attend, please do not worry, we have published the slide show and links to useful concrete resources we use in school that you can buy to use at home: https://www.learningresources.co.uk/shop/subject/numeracy-resources?srsltid=AfmBOoq6R4lPa1nFFjcrT1PNq7e9LTPikgpPtnDzeVScskxJRZ17GNNA
