PE
At Kingshill Infant and Nursery School, we believe that all children should develop a love of physical activity and a confidence in their ability to perform physical tasks. Children are encouraged to lead active, healthy lifestyles and are made aware of the choices needed to do this, from healthy eating, to regular exercise. Children become confident in a variety of areas of physical activity, including ball skills, basic and more advanced movement, and dance, allowing them to leave Kingshill Infants with the knowledge and skills needed to not only develop a healthy relationship with sport but to give them a strong foundation of skills for school and beyond.
In Nursery and Reception, PE is linked to the Prime area of learning 'Physical Development'. In the Early Years, they have one lesson of directed PE time a week.
In Year 1 and Year 2, we cover the requirements of the National Curriculum. PE is taught twice a week through discrete lessons.
From Reception to Year 2, all of our children enjoy the benefit of swimming lessons in the summer term. Although this is beyond the National Curriculum, we believe our children are learning an essential life skill whilst having lots of fun with their class. Kingshill and St Mary's enjoy an on-site outdoor, heated pool and the cost of this is subsidised or provided free*
